1. Sleeping a lot
If a person sleeps a lot and likes spending time alone, then he may be mentally ill and seeking for your help. If you have a friend or a person in your family who is showing traits of being mentally ill and lonely, then you need to help him. Spend time with him, listen to his problems and understand his feelings.

2. Mood swings
In both men and women, mood swings are common, but if they are frequent, then it is a matter of concern. A rapid and dramatic shift in emotions is not normal. A person who is depressed or mentally unstable, often gets mood swings that are tough to tackle.
3. Do no socialize
People who have an unstable mind or mental issues don’t like to socialize. There are some people who are introverts and we can’t call them mentally ill. But a person, who is showing other traits of being mentally ill and doesn’t like to socialize much, may be going through a serious mental condition.
4. Decline personal care
We all love to look good and that’s why we put a lot of efforts in personal care, but people who are mentally disturbed or ill may decline their personal care. They are so disconnected from the real world that they start living in their own world and avoid taking care of themselves. They don’t eat properly, don’t drink properly and don’t take care of their personal hygiene. They have a sense of unreality. They often feel disconnected from the real world.

5. Problem thinking and speaking
Have you ever met a person, who takes a lot of time thinking and babbles while speaking? It can be a serious trait of being mentally ill. Due to over-thinking and disconnection with the real world, people often lose their tendency to think. Our tongue is directly connected to our brain and if our brain has lost its tendency to think properly, how can we speak properly. They feel nervous while talking to you and have unusual behaviour.

How to help a mentally ill person?
- Talk to them in a comfortable space
- Talk in a calm and relaxed manner
- Motivate them for being normal
- Be respectful towards their condition
- Try to understand the reason behind their condition
- Be responsive towards their talks
- Express your concern towards them
- Offer them support 24*7
- Ask appropriate question according to their age
- Do not blame or criticize them for their condition
