I Underwent Sinus Surgery And It Was Worth It – Patient Experience

My name is Andrea Bullocks and this is my account of undergoing FESS surgery from Pristyn Care. I hope other people suffering from sinusitis find the information below useful and makes the right decision. After the surgery, I always tell people that it was totally worth it!

Signs of Blocked Nose and Headache

I was at work when suddenly an episode of sinusitis started. My symptoms were common including the blocked nose, postnasal drip and feeling tired. As the day progressed, the tiredness became severe and I got a throbbing headache. I took some painkillers and tried to concentrate on work but it was a futile attempt.

I went back home early and tried to get some rest but I couldn’t. The pain was drilling so I took some more pain medicines and put some nasal drops. Unfortunately, the pain didn’t subside and the drops only made the congestion worse. I tried to inhale some steam but it only got me relief temporarily. I tried to sleep but I just couldn’t. Even the slightest noise and light, made the pain worse. Hence, I started browsing on my phone for a solution.

While browsing a treatment for sinusitis, I came across the Pristyn Care website. I looked at the website thoroughly and it seemed genuine. Several patients shared videos of getting permanent relief from sinusitis after getting treated from there. I read several patient testimonials too about their doctor. After making sure that this was a genuine website, I booked an appointment with them the following day. I was actually desperate for a solution.

Doctor’s Diagnosis

The following day I woke up and I got a call from Pristyn Care confirming the appointment. After preliminary insight of my problem, they asked for the health insurance plans and asked for some personal documents. I shared the same with them over Whatsapp. Following this, I got ready and went for the appointment.

I was right on time. Without waiting for an extra moment, I met with the doctor. She listened to my problem attentively. She asked a couple of questions regarding family history and confirmed that I was suffering from sinusitis due to genetic factors. She physically examined me and recommended me to undergo a Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery or FESS.

I was completely surprised when she mentioned surgery. Seeing me all worried, she explained that in this procedure, a special instrument known as an endoscope is inserted through the nose to reach the sinuses. The doctor expands and drains the sinuses to clear off any infection. She explained that there won’t be any pain as this process is performed under the influence of anesthesia. The results are long-lasting and with proper medicines and precautions, the recovery is also fast. After recalling several patient reviews and seeing the doctor’s commitment, I decided to undergo the surgery.

Preparing for The Surgery

After stepping out of the clinic, I had to now arrange for one thing for the surgery which was the cost of the surgery. I knew my health insurance plan would cover this but I was skeptical about the paperwork. But then a message dropped that the insurance claim was approved. It was from a medical coordinator. Immediately he called me and explained that their insurance team has taken care of the process. Then I realized this was the reason they asked for the documents. Impressed enough, I started taking necessary precautions for the surgery.

I got all my diagnostic tests completed and the reports were shared with the doctor. He confirmed that all the vitals are normal. I stopped drinking and taking any supplements. As per the doctor’s advise, I didn’t eat anything after midnight.

FESS Surgery

After waking up early and following the daily routine, I got ready. I skipped breakfast as the doctor asked me to do. The medical coordinator called me and told that the cab was waiting for me at the doorstep. I hopped on the cab which took me to the hospital.

When I reached the hospital, the Care buddy assisted me through the entire admission process. He made sure my private room was ready. The room was clean with all the necessary equipment. I was changed to scrubs and my vitals were checked again. Fortunately, everything was normal.

The doctor reassured me that everything was normal. The anesthetist checked everything and injected me with general anesthesia. I dozed off slowly.

I woke after an hour and could feel a nasal packing inside the nose. The doctor checked up on me and told me that it was 100% successful. I was relieved that all went well.

I was kept under observation for a night and discharged next morning only after making sure that there were no complications.

Recovery From The Surgery

When I got back home, I couldn’t feel much pain or discomfort due to anesthesia and nasal packing. On the first day, I took complete rest and made sure that I don’t blow the nose. Every time I felt like sneezing, I tried to do it with the mouth.  Every time I removed the nasal packing to rinse the nasal cavity, my nose felt blocked and there was mild bleeding.

I was able to resume my daily activities within two days. There weren’t any major complications nor any excessive bleeding. Primarily because I followed the doctor’s checklist of dos and don’ts judiciously and not missing out on any dosage of prescribed medicines. Here are a few things that I followed during the entire recovery period-

  • Kept myself hydrated to prevent the throat lining from dying as I was breathing mostly through the mouth.
  • As soon as I felt any pain, I wrapped some ice cubes in a towel and kept it near the wound site
  • Stayed away from smoke or places where it could be dusty
  • Regularly rinsed the nose and the nasal passages with saline solution to remove blood and debris
  • While sleeping, I put some extra pillows under the head to prevent the stuffiness from getting worse
  • Started exercising or any other strenuous activity only after
  • Ate a nutritious diet but avoided dairy products.

I went for the follow up on the fifth day. After checking the nose thoroughly, he promised me that th healing might take another few days and removed the packing and the nasal stent. I could breathe freely. Within a week, I recovered completely. It has been 2 months since the surgery. There is no problem sleeping due to which my productivity has also increased. I thank Pristyn Care for the same.
