Important Facts To Know About The Skin

The outermost covering of our bodies is the skin. Its basic function is to keep the internal organs, muscles, and tissues out of danger and safe from the effects of the environment and other harmful agents like bacteria and germs.

The skin of an average person covers about 2 square meters of area and accounts for about 15% of the total body weight. It is made up of various layers and special skin cells.

Sometimes, the skin develops certain issues like sun spots, age spots, wrinkles, and even uneven pigmentation. Many times, taking care of the skin requires one to spend more time and focus on special care to provide to the skin if any of these issues last for long.

Skin pigmentation treatment and other treatments can also be opted for in special skin clinics with the undivided attention of skin specialists and professionals. These days, laser treatment is also available for skin conditions to deal with acne scars, sun spots, stubborn acne, uneven hair growth, or sunburns.

DETAILS OF THE SKIN AND ITS COLOUR

The skin is basically formed out of three layers, the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis.

The epidermis forms the outermost layer of the skin which is also waterproof. The middle layer, the dermis, is the one that has hair follicles and glands. The last and innermost layer is the hypodermis which is basically connected to internal tissues and has fats.

The color of our skin is generated by special cells called melanocytes. They are a part of the outermost layer of the skin, the epidermis. They create a substance called melanin which determines the skin color. More the melanin secretion, the darker the skin and vice versa.

Many times, the skin develops conditions related to melanin content. Sometimes, people do not have enough melanin in their skin and that makes their skin very sensitive to the outer environmental conditions especially sun exposure.

On the other hand, sometimes, people can develop conditions in which the skin has too much melanin on parts of it and this gives rise to hyperpigmentation.

Pigmentation can be treated at home using some natural remedies like tomato juice or turmeric, but sometimes, if the condition worsens, it is best to go for professional treatment by a medical professional.

Skin pigmentation treatments offered in clinics by dermatologists or skin specialists are very helpful in treating the hyperpigmentation on the skin.

Other issues related to the skin can also develop in certain individuals and most of the time, it has little to do with the external effects and more to do with the genetic structure and climatic conditions.

For example, people who live around the equator tend to have darker skin and more melanin content as their places of residence always get to be exposed to straight rays from the sun. Without enough melanin, the skin will easily be burned or damaged by the sun and its rays.

On the other hand, people who live far from the equator and near the poles or colder regions tend to have lighter skin and less melanin content. Since their skin is not exposed to a lot of suns, it does not create more melanin than necessary.

If these people were to travel to coastal or equatorial regions, they would need a lot of care and attention to keep their skin safe from direct exposure to the sun rays.

OTHER ISSUES OF SKIN AND TREATING THEM

Apart from pigmentation and dullness, there are various other issues related to the skin that may develop in certain individuals under specific circumstances.
