What Causes Earache?

Earache can occur in both adults and children. People often take earache as just a minor nuisance, but if not taken proper care, it can be severe and become a barrier in your day to day life. What causes ear aches?

Earwax

When you don’t clean your ear frequently, wax builds in your ear and gets hard, so your ear canal gets blocked. Using cotton swabs to clean ear wax is the worst idea, as it can push the wax farther inside your ear canal and wax starts causing pain in your ear. Your ear might get severely infected, if you’ll not clean your earwax with the right equipment. If wax is stuck farther in your ear, then don’t try to clean it by your own. Cold air pressure

Your ear does a great job in keeping air pressure equal on both sides of ear drum, but sometimes when cold air pressurizes your ear, it starts hurting badly. Cold air pressure can cause an unbearable pain in your ear. Due to cold air pressure, your ear might hurt and you will have trouble hearing. When you are at a cold place, keep your ears wrapped with a warm cloth, so that cold air won’t affect it. While travelling to mountains, its important to ear warm cap and cover your ears properly.

Trapped water

Water may get trapped in your ears while bathing or swimming. Trapped water in your ears can breed germs and severely infect your ear drum. Trapped water infection can also cause an eardrum rupture, if not treated on time. If water is trapped in your ear it might get red, swollen, itchy and leak light yellow pus, which is a matter of concern. To avoid this situation, cover your ear while swimming or bathing. If water is trapped in your ears, then consult a specialist for the treatment.

Cold and cough

Cold, throat soreness and cough can block the tubes of your middle ear. This is one of the major causes of ear pain. If you are a sinus patient, then you need to be very careful with your ear. Ear infection can occur anytime due to cold, cough and other allergies. It can even cause hearing loss. So, try staying safe from cold and cough, if you have a sensitive ear, throat and nose.

Fungal infection

There are certain reasons behind fungal infection or Otomycosis in your ear. Fungal infection in ear causes dry skin, smelly yellow discharge and severe ear pain. People who live in warm humid climate are more likely to get fungal infection in ears. If you are facing such problem, then you must take the help of an ENT specialist.

Other reasons behind your ear pain can be tooth pain, jaw pain, facial nerve pain, perforated eardrum, etc. Do not insert any foreign object in your ears whenever your experience earache.
